We have hosted the first three of five C.S.S.A. events on Canadian soil this year. On April 16 and 17 we hosted the Third Annual Western Regional Conference and Tradeshow. This was the first ever two day event for the C.S.S.A. and was held in Richmond (Vancouver), British Columbia. It was terrific also to see so many new people out in May at the C.S.S.A. 2009 Ottawa Regional Conference. The storage operators and owners in Eastern Canada spoke and we listened so on July 23, 2009 we hosted the 2nd Annual C.S.S.A. Eastern Canadian Regional Conference in St. John’s Newfoundland! This event was well received, with some very informative speaker presentations and for the first time ever the CSSA “Panel of Experts” were there to assist and answer all of the very interesting questions of the delegates. Thank you very much to all who attended this Eastern Canadian event and also a huge thank you goes out to the very generous sponsors of the day! Thank you to J.W. Lindsay Construction, Cowan Insurance Group and SMD Software – Sitelink. Last year all previous attendance records for Canadians at the SSA Fall Conference in Las Vegas were broken. We are gearing up once again to see many of you again this fall! Please mark Wednesday September 9, 2009 on your calendar for the Annual CSSA VIP Networking Cocktail Reception at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Another important date to remember is Friday September 11, 2009 for the Canadian Self Storage Association Roundtable Discussions to be followed by the 2009 CSSA Annual General Meeting of Members. On Thursday September 10 and Friday September 11, 2009 please be sure to drop by the SSA Affiliates Booth on the Tradeshow floor to say hello and see what the Association has been working on. Back home here, it has also a very productive start to 2009 for the Canadian Self Storage Association. Here are some of projects that we are working on: • Our Lease Agreement and Lien Law Committee was formed. This is a volunteer committee made up of some of the CSSA members. They have been very busy and the results are starting to show. • The ground work has been set for the creation of three other committees also with the intent to make our industry and even better way of business in Canada. They are Building Codes and By-Laws, Property Tax Issues and Active/Passive Tax Issues in Canadian Self Storage. • We have begun actively looking for volunteers who would like to be a part of our ever growing organization to help with making Canada a better place to own and operate your self storage business. The newly created Self-Storage Canada Magazine became the Official Publication of the Canadian Self Storage Association. The second issue of this magazine hit our offices in December of 2008 and there are many more to come. This is a magazine that is specific the Canadian self storage industry with articles and vendor advertising directly for those of us north of the border. All C.S.S.A. members receive this magazine automatically and complimentary as part of their membership benefits. We were also able to negotiate a special C.S.S.A.
